The Bronco family is here, and they are beasts. These vehicles were built to give Ford the off-road crown and give Jeep a run for its money. Ford was so intent on this that they developed new trail technology that you won’t find on any other manufacturers. Two of these include:
G.O.A.T. Mode
GOAT stands for Go Over Any Type of Terrain mode. Essentially, this matches your drive system to the specific terrain that you’re on. GOAT mode gives the vehicle’s computer the ability to control the differentials, anti-roll bar, the traction control’s sensitivity, and more! Terrains include normal, eco, sport, slippery, sand, baja, mud, and rock.
HOSS Suspension
High-Performance Off-Road Stability Suspension comes straight from the recent improvements Ford made to the Super-Duty suspension system. The front suspension is entirely independent, while the rear springs are connected to a heavy-duty Dana 44 Axle in the back. Which gives the Bronco insane articulation when climbing rocks and greater high-speed stability.
Here is our rundown of what you need to know before you buy. And what’s more, the Bronco is now a family, and not just one model. There are two models that you can choose from with multiple trim levels:
THE BRONCO SPORT
Currently available at Durango Motor Company! The Sport is the model geared towards the adventurer that loves the backcountry but still needs to navigate the city and the interstate comfortably. It’s the baby brother of the Bronco and is similar to the smaller models that Jeep offers. This model comes standard with 4-doors and a safari roof for added cargo/passenger room.
Some of the features Included:
- Configurable cargo area with seats that lay flat
- Enough room to fit 2 full-size mountain bikes
- LED lights in the back to make it home base in the backcountry
- Available twin-clutch rear drive unit & diff lockers
- Great fuel economy
- 400-watt power inverter to charge all of your gadgets
- Available washable rubber floor and vinyl upholstery with drain plugs
Each of these features are available via different trim levels. Here is a breakdown of what you can expect on each one:
THE BASE
This model comes standard with the 1.5L inline-3 turbocharged engine, safety features like automated emergency braking, Apple Carplay & Android Auto, and 5 out of the 7 G.O.A.T modes.
THE BIG BEND
Running mainly the same feature as the base, the The Big Bend addition comes with an easy to clean interior, 17 inch rims, and more features on the entertainment system (like the ability to run Serious XM).
THE OUTER BANKS
On both the Bronco Sport and Bronco, the outer banks are the luxury trims. For the Bronco Sport, this means fancier trim, 18-inch aluminum wheels equipped with all-terrain tires, heated leather seats that are powered in the front, and added tech like rain-sensing wipers and a dual-zone climate system.
THE BADLANDS
The Badlands is where the adventure starts! There are tons of mechanical upgrades like a twin-clutch differential that delivers power to the individual wheels that have traction. This trim is way more off-road capable with a full trail camera system, trail cruise control, bigger tires, front tow hooks, and all of Ford’s G.O.A.T. modes.
THE FIRST EDITION
This trim of the Bronco Sport is based on the Badlands but has the Outer Bank’s luxury add-ons. Also coming standard on this beast is the moonroof and 10-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system. Both of which guarantee a fun ride out to the trailhead.
THE BRONCO
Available in 2 and 4 doors on all trim levels, this model from the Bronco family is more reminiscent of the original Bronco. And it’s Built Ford Tough for the backcountry. Check out some of the available features that made this model Jeep’s worst nightmare:
- All aspects are modular and customizable
- Open-air capability – Removable doors and roof
- Electric locking differentials
- 11.6” ground clearance
- Off-road cruise control for crawling
- G.O.A.T. mode (Go Over Any Terrain Mode)
- Sway bar disconnects
- 33.5” fording ability for amphibious travel
- 180 degree trail camera system
- 12v outlets
- Slide out tailgate to prep all of your gear
The Bronco comes in 6 different trim levels, all of which come standard with a heavy duty steel chassis. Here is a quick breakdown of each trim level:
THE BASE
This model has 2-doors and is the most basic version. Still boasting 4-wheel drive, a 2.3L inline-four with a 7-speed transmission, and a 2 speed clutch, this model is more than off-road capable. You also have the choice of upgrading to the 2.7L V-6 with a 10-speed transmission along with other upgrades to the interior and drivetrain.
THE BIG BEND
The Big Bend is similar to The Base Bronco with the addition of a nicer interior, more options for Ford’s G.O.A.T. mode, fancier rims, and fog lamps.
THE BLACK DIAMOND
This is where you start to see more off-road features added. Including large all-terrain tires, even more additions to G.O.A.T. mode, and auxiliary switches for additional accessories. Also added to this model are vinyl seats and a rubberized floor with drain plugs, so you can spray wash the interior after a day of off-roading.
THE OUTER BANKS
The Outer Banks is the luxury Bronco. More comfort is added to this trim through heated seats, a remote starter, and dual climate control. Also, Ford Co-Pilot 360 comes standard on this model, which adds safety features like lane-control and automated emergency braking.
THE WILDTRACK
If you’re a true backcountry enthusiast, The Bronco Wildtrak is the trim for you. Not only do the larger 2.7L engine and 10-speed tranny come standard but tons of other off-road features are added. Such as locking differentials, all 7 G.O.A.T. modes, 35” mud tires, high clearance suspension, and more. Oh, and it has the luxury features of The Outer Banks.
THE FIRST EDITION
This trim is definitely for the retired tech executive Sedona types if you get what we mean… But hey, if you can get your hands on one of these, more power to you! Only 3000 of The First Editions are being made, and they come fully loaded with all the luxury and off-road features. This is for sure the mac daddy of the family.
